And then there was only football

Yes, quite obviously I had a lot of other things on my mind instead of blogging, mainly the running Worldcup which has the first round of group matches down and entering the second round by tonight. Both the teams me and the Bf are rooting for won, so far so good. Might be getting funny if they actually meat each other in a match of direct elimination. oO Obviously one of those teams is Italy. And oh I hope they get far, distracts those Italians from the mess their national championship is. However, overall I must say I was quite disappointed by some of the really hyped teams and I freely admit that I hoped Croatia would manage the draw yesterday evening although I generally couldn't care less about them.

Sunday evening we were invited to a friend's birthday and the bf had made some rice dish to bring along, shame that with all the food the rest had brought, we now still have rice to eat! :o

The rest of the time I spent mostly answering letters or just maliciously lingering around the place which I am now promptly going back to.

World of Disbelief

So I went over to read my house guests blog (click to the right), and what do I see ... those brits actually voted the chick that should be beheaded and dismantled for writing about the glass wearing little punk to be the greatest living english author.

So I ask thee, did you lose any and all taste recently or did you never have any to begin with? Hah!

World of Cups

No, I am not talking about B, C or D ones. Today the FIFA Worldcup 2006 opens, meaning four weeks of Football (grrr soccer for you heretics) and ergo meaning that I will likely slack a bit with entries because I will be busy watching matches or re-runs or best goals or something like that ;) We already stocked up on the most important groceries.

Last two days I ate some more books and watched some nostalgia cartoons from my youth - sigh, it's a tragedy I can call something a nostalgia from my younger years - and trained to stand still in one spot. Fred has not learned yet to bring the mail. I am about to give up on him.

That would be all, except that I noticed this morning that there have been only 5(!) people clicking on the picture of this weeks house guest. I think it would be a good idea to check her out, and - applying some mind tricks ... now ... - you think that too. Just move your cursor a bit to the right and press the button. And after you done that, forget everything you read here.

World of Renting

A'right, I finally made a decision! Oh the novelty.

I think I must have clicked every blog that had applied to rent my space at least 5 times, reading through posts to get a feeling for it ... however, that didn't help much, on the contrary, so in the end, I choosed to go with the one that has the same vice as me. WoW.

So welcome 'Void-Star.Net'! Now, if you Ladies and Gentlemen visiting this site (I know you are going to be here at least 20 secs!) could go and click over there ----> (if you saw flight girls, imagine THE gesture just with both hands pointing the same direction) you would help me tremendously with being a good, no superb landlady. Infact, just open her blog in a new tab/window and you can go on surfing for credits whilst reading hers!

My house guest - Dee - is a 22 year old girl from Australia who plays too much WoW and is a design freak as well as a bureaucratic office drone ;) She makes some damn interesting points in her posts, well worth to check out. I actually added her to my short blogroll.

You also should definetly take a look at:

My life in italy2 , she doesn't live that far away from me I think and you can read on her blog what the US does to help Mexico recover from earthquakes!
Modern Princess , Chelle Belle , who both have very beautiful designs;
Two Sistas and a Dude, the baggage post is quite true;
Scooter, talks about music and Veronica Mars and other things deemed worthy;
Karolczak , is that contest still running Jason?;
Recommended , who as the name suggests, recommends all sort of things;
Coffee Crotchet , who is the 'best' hammerer - read why;
Beauty Tricks , who gives handy tips for all things concerning beauty and looks;
MTMD , a blog about water, nature, landscapes, experiences - incl those of guestposters; Shauner , who calls himself an internet entrepreneur and liked his stay at the casino;
Stupid People Shouldn't Breed , well written posts, 'rarely stupid' award and might still be looking for a guest blogger;
Blogs of the Week , reviews/talks about other blogs;
Sparks and Butterflies , who made me really curious who she was talking about in the third post from above.

Gawd this was the hardest post I had to write so far. I wish I could have taken in all of them!

P.S. I am still wondering about the stuff in the post below |

World of Words

So yesterday was the day that all superstitious people dreaded or welcomed, depending on the general affiliation because it had three times six in it ... the beast huh? I'd call it the other side of the same, but anyway ... did anyone have anything mysterious happen to them?

I spent most of the day turning the pages of 'The Truth' by T. Pratchett, the day before I went through 'Night Watch'. Rats and Thunder, I read too fast. Couldn't help but wondering what kind of pc games the protags would be playing if ... Vetinari for example seems like someone who would enjoy SimCity, but I could be wrong and he'd just go all out on FPS customized with 'real' faces. Vimes I'd give a racing game (he does enjoy a good chase after all) or streetfighter ...

Only incoming letter yesterday was from P.Y. (Malaysia) but the day before I received three lovely postcards from the US. The collection is growing!

Ah yes, I put up my blog for rent and uh I figured no one would be interested much, but rats and thunder, I got a bunch of bids during the time I was reading and sleeping. I'll decide asap who is going to get the spot, it's not going to be easy, I hate to disappoint people.

World of Pain ...

... Hah! Actually no, not really, I am exaggerating, my legs do ache a bit when climbing stairs, but otherwise I took yesterdays bike tour better then expected. Certainly enjoyed moving my butt. Could get addicted to it.

We saw X3 on Saturday and I liked it. It was what I expected from a movie based on a superhero comic. Cool Lads and Lasses battling it out in an special effect explosion. Besides, Hugh Jackman pulled his shirt, so all is good (obvious bf taunt! /kiss ).

- - - mild spoiling now - - -

I've seen discussions pop up whether they can continue after changing the storyline so much, but yes, I think they can without too much problems. Infact, I'd be friggin disappointed if that cure lasts forever because uhm ya you get one shot and your whole DNA is reworked or part of it made useless and you then turn out to be perfectly normal human down to the last nucleotide? Seems fishy to me, but then I am not a biology geek.
Although, if it would turn out to be everlasting everafter ... after the scene in the prison truck I find
Magneto to be very unsympathic (actually liked him before). He can stick to chess. And I wouldn't miss Rogue, the only time she ever did something usefull or was interesting was when she had a scene with Wolverine.

Btw, I wondered, the younger lasses out there, do you prefer Wolverine, Scott, Bobby? Or maybe Pyro? Angel? Admittedly, I don't even know the names of the actors. Poor sobs, known only as mutants. Just like some people call ProfX either that or Jean Luc Picard I guess. It's just not something really important for me, I've never went to a movie based solely on what actor's in it. Either the story interests me, or it doesn't. The only exception I make is for Leonardo di Caprio. Guy is so creeping me out I refuse to watch any movie with him. And yea, this means I never saw Titanic or Gangs of New York.

Hot and Cold

You just have to love our anti-climatical appartment with it's massive old stone walls. It soaks up and keeps the heat when it's warm outside and does it's best not to do so if it happens to be cold, rainy, cloudy, snowy, or in short tempo di merda. And here in Italy you generally don't turn the heater on during the summer half of the year, ie mid april to mid october.
So you can imagine why I spent half of yesterday drinking hot beverages and jumping up and down to keep warm, because the weather man decided that just on the day of the 'Festa della Repubblica' it should be grey and crappy.

But, I shouldn't complain really, because the weather is golden right now. It's the summer I dread, here in the Padana. Closed in by mountains from three sides, with one big and gazillions of small rivers as well as several big lakes this place turns into one of those houses you use to grow exotic jungle plants during the summer months. I hate being an exotic plant!

Suchia (Sucks) that I have that little phobia of not being able to sleep with closed windows. Using our portable airco makes me choke - or at least I am immagining I have to. And our bedroom is the coldest room of the appartment in winter and the hottest in summer no less. Ahah so the bf already told me I'd have to sleep on the couch so he can actually get the bedroom to an acceptable temperature for himself ;)

Due to it being a holiday yesterday, there was no mail for me, but two of the cards I had sent off for postcrossing.com arrived, so I shall get new ones for my collection soon. The curiousity and suspence about where it will come from is the best part of postcrossing I think.

Today we are off to the parrucchiere (hairdresser). Technically, the bf is not going to the parrucchiere but to the barbiere, however, it's going to be the same signora in the same shop anyway so I am not sure we have to be technically correct with those gender distinctions in regards to hair cutting.
After that, a little trip with the bike to burn some calories, 'dress with less'-season is one step away from coming around the corner and then finally tonight we will go to see X3. Busy busy day.

Oh yes, I still ought to tell you how was last sunday at the medieval town, drat, but I had not had the chance yet to get the pictures developed - yes, I do not own a dig cam, how sad is that nowadays?

Tata snuggles'!

Nuovi Prezzi - New Prices - Oh djoy

Yesterday I did my weekly run to the post office here in town. There they told me, that they had changed the prices. Funny people at the post office couldn't even tell me what the new prices are (not unusual) nor did they have an updated price list. To cover up they declared I could toss in my letters and cards at the old price for a few days still. And that I should look up the new ones on the web-site of Poste Italiane.

A'right, I did that. Found a probably very insightful declaration of the Ministro delle Comunicazioni in wonderful legal italian with some pricelists attached. From one of these lists I figured they would only offer posta prioritaria from here on out. Asked the bf to confirm. Yup, only prioritaria available anymore. With slightly raised prices. Bugger.

I used ordinaria, because it was 15 cents on average cheaper for only a semantical difference in delivery time. A loop hole so to say, since all the post was going via airplane and courier transport anyway nowadays. For my not inconsiderable amount of letters this was a bliss. Now I am looking at 20 euro cents increase for letters to America and Asia and 25 euro cents more for Ozeania Area. Blergh. Blergh.

On the positive side, I received two viewcards thanks to Postcrossing yesterday. Lovely website that for people who like cards. You send a postcard to a random person which you get assigned by the system, you receive a postcard from a random person. Rinse, repeat as often as you want.
Mine came from the Netherlands and Finland. My collection on the wall is slowly growing, but still not hiding the fact it needs fresh painting ;) Also got a letter from J. (Canada) and send out replies to T. (USA), A. (Netherlands) and S. (Japan)

Now waiting for the bf to get to the office and pointing out my grammar mistakes during his coffee break :p

/kiss

P.S. Fred still doesn't fetch the mail =(

Questionaires - Do you ...

... knowingly cheat when taking one of those silly quizzes from quizilla and similar places? I know I do ;)

Do you think it is even possible to answer absolutely 'honest' unless you never heard of the movie/book/game/etc in question? Have you ever been really surprised by the answer you got?

On the odd occassion that I am taking one of them, it's because 'What XY Character are you?' is about a movie/book/game/etc that is liked by yours truly in the first place, ergo I already have a pretty good idea which characters in the movie/book/game/etc I like and which I don't. The chance that I'd end up being Frodo in a LoTR quiz is smaller than winning the lottery because I'd rather be an Urukhai than Frodo.
